And here's........the rest.....of the story

Okay, so we haven't had much time to fill everyone in on the details.  Especially Dave.  The poor guy has had several all nighters trying to study for his finals and help me with Sophie at the same time.  He's been so good about it and never complains, but he's sleeping right now, which is why he hasn't posted any new pictures yet.  Sorry.  Maybe later tonight.  I figured he deserves to rest a little bit.

Well, I guess I'll start with last Tuesday.  I woke up at 5:30 thinking I had the worst indigestion of my life.  It turned out to be labor.  Dave says the funniest part was when I told him around 7:30 he might want to think about waking up, to which he responded with "another 5 minutes".  When I just stood there looking at him, he woke up a little more and realized I never ask him to get up unless there's a good reason.  We were at the hospital by 9.  When we finally got situated, they checked me and said I was already dilated to a 5, which made me extremely happy since I was planning on doing everything naturally and it meant there was less time until I would deliver hopefully.  I spent some time in the jacuzzi tub, got dilated to a 7 fairly quickly and everything was looking good for a birth before dinnertime.  At that point, they could feel Sophie's head and could tell it was turned the wrong way, so they tried to turn her physically, but she wasn't having any of it.  They tried having me move to different positions, but nothing worked.  I had also stopped dilating any further, which was due to her positioning they think.  She was actually starting to show some signs of stress by this point, so they had to give me an IV (which I didn't want more than anything else, but what can you do?) and I had them give me something through it to help with the pain (which was also caused by her funny positioning).  Anyway, I ended up getting an epidural around 6 because nothing seemed to be working and I figured I did my time.  I finally progressed enough to push and they let the epidural wear off a bit (not sure why, but I was NOT happy about that), pushed for 2 hours and nothing happened.  Okay, so something happened, just not enough.  They could see her head for most of that time and could feel she was still turned.  At some point in the middle of the night (I was completely out of it and not focusing very well), her heart rate went up really high and they couldn't get it back down, so they prepped me for the C-Section and away we went.  It was different than I imagined.  They actually push down on your ribcage and it feels like you're being squished to death, except you can't really feel it and you don't really care much (that was from the drugs they gave me earlier through the IV - apparently they don't actually stop the pain, they just make you stop caring that it hurts.........trust me, you still care)  She was born at 1:47 am.  At that point, they figured out why I couldn't push her out.  It was because she was trying to come forehead first and face up, and the stubborn little girl wouldn't have it any other way.  Well, she got a good goose egg and a massive bruise for trying.  Hopefully she learned her lesson and won't be difficult again for the rest of her life.  :)  She was 9 lbs 5 oz, 21 1/2 inches long.

I was in the hospital through Saturday, when they finally let me go.  In the meantime, she did develop a little bit of jaundice, but it peaked around a 12 (they treat it when it gets over 20 or so), stayed for a couple days, then went down, so she's fine now.  She had her first doctor's appointment today.  At the hospital, her weight dropped from 9 lb 5 oz to 8 lb 6 oz, which is pretty normal.  Today, she was back up to 8 lb 11 oz, which is right on track for her to be back up to birth weight by the second week.

I think that's all I've got.  I can't think of any other details that people might want to know.  Let me know if there are questions.

Dave is awake now, so maybe we'll have some pictures later tonight.
