So, tonight when we put Sophie to bed, she did her usual trick of running ahead into her room and hiding under the blanket on the toddler bed. Usually, we pretend not to see her and then go find her and she squeals. Then we get her off the bed and get her settled in her crib. So tonight, she did the same thing, but after I "found" her, I asked her if she wanted to sleep in that bed (which I've done before jokingly and she usually plays along for a few seconds then gets up and wants to be in the crib). So instead of getting up, she laid down, I covered her with the blanket and got her other normal bedtime things from her crib. The whole time, I was secretly jumping up and down inside in excitement, and also thinking it was going to backfire any moment. But I tucked her in, gave her kisses, turned off the light, shut the door, and there was no screaming. Not 2 seconds after, not 2 hours after. As far as I can tell, she stayed in the bed and went right to sleep. Holy cow. We'll see if this actually works. I'm a little worried that she'll wake up in the morning and freak out. Any other time she's been in her room by herself with the door closed, she's freaked out immediately. Let's all cross our fingers for no screaming at 6:30 in the morning.
