Do you know what happened on September 8th, 2011? Any guess? Well it was the last time I posted on this blog. I feel bad, I really do. I love this blog. It gives me a chance to express myself and talk about topics that I want.
There are multiple factors that have forced me into blog absence…
-The main reason is that I don’t typically put pictures of Sophie on my posts. This, of course, is the reason most of you watch the blog so I felt my posts were not going to be as valuable.
-I haven’t been doing much. This is partly true as I haven’t done much in the seven months since my last post. However, in looking back, I really have done a lot since then. I got sworn in as an officer of the court in the state of Utah. I was job searching for a long time (still ongoing really). Worked as an unpaid intern for the Utah Federal Defenders Office where I helped indigent clients facing prosecution in federal court (I even got my first court appearance for a few clients here). I found a paying job with Orange Legal Technologies as a document review attorney (where I still am). I have celebrated multiple holidays including important ones like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve/Day, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and Easter. So I guess I have been doing a lot. Why I haven’t posted any of this is anyone’s guess.
-I’ve had some writer’s block. I still haven’t finished my Harry Potter post I started my second year of law school. College athletic realignment continues to change to make the post I was going to do on that almost obsolete before I even write it. My posts about the Constitution and the Amendments take time and I just haven’t felt the need to finish them right now. I also have been trying to finish some book reviews on Goodreads so that has taken some of my writing time. Lastly, I have run out of things to write about. If you have suggestions let me know.
-I haven’t had that big break between semesters anymore to have time to write. Now I am home and I want to spend time with the family. Not a problem but I can still take an hour every so often to do a post, right?
Well, I guess this is an apology post. I will write more. I really hope I do because it is fun. Your comments are also welcome as they give me post ideas and let me know someone is reading every once in a while. Anyway I'll leave you with something fun. During my time with the Utah Federal Defenders Office I read a lot of cases, and I mean a huge amount of cases. Every once in a while I would come across a couple of funny cases and I decided to keep them for some laughs. So I will share one with you in conclusion and maybe some more in later posts. Here we go…
...Police received a tip from a brother-in-law of the Defendant that he was using his parent’s house in Michigan as a drug distribution center. Police built a case against the Defendant by observing the house and trying to verify that the Defendant had drugs in the house. The Defendant was pulled over after leaving the house and consented to a search of his person and his car during the traffic stop, no drugs or weapons were found. Police were then informed that the Defendant’s half-sister was responsible for the house and therefore the police went to the Defendant's half-sister to ask for permission to search the Defendant's house. Police received permission and preceded to search the house. They found marijuana and weapons (illegal as he was a previous felon) stashed inside the house. The case picks up the rest of the interesting story....
..."As the officers were removing the marijuana from the rafter, Ayoub arrived in his car. Ayoub exited his car, removed his shirt, and spun around in circles, proclaiming, "The weed is mine. Take me to jail. You ruined my life"...
Officers then arrested the Defendant and took him to the police station.
-United States v. Ayoub, 498 F.3d 532, (6th Cir.) 2007.
My official legal recommendation to all of you is that if any of you get arrested this is not what you do. Ok? Til next time.

No spinning around in circles proclaiming my guilt...got it. Thanks for the advice, Dave. I can't wait to hear the rest of the funny cases!
The other day we went to the campus of our local university where we picked up a newspaper where I read a delightful section entitled "Police Beat"...it was full of humorous anecdotes regarding real life situations involving the police. I think you should create your own "Police Beat"...
I love your posts Dave, so don't give up writing!
