Movie Quiz #18

We are on to a new movie quote. There is not much time to get in a few extra points to see if you get the winning prize. I have yet to decide what the prize will be but we will have to wait and see.

The last movie quote came from a great movie from my childhood. That movie inspired me to jump off the couch several times in order to fly. Tragically I had no pixy dust and therefore I was unable to fly. However, that did not prevent my imagination from creating a world where I could fly to Neverland and back.

Dan gets two points for the correct movie and who said it. Jorden, of course, cleans up what Dan left behind by getting one point for the context. The movie, of course, is Hook. The quote came from the early moments of the film when Peter Banning (Robin Williams) arrives in Neverland and tries to rescue his kids that are in a net above the deck of the pirate ship. Tinkerbell asks for time to get Peter back to his old form so Hook can have his great war. He returns to the Lost Boys who help him remember who he is.

This movie was chock full of possible quotes including…“This is an insurance nightmare! What is this? Some sort of the ‘Lord of the Flies’ preschool?” or the even better line after Rufio says they kill adults because they are all pirates. Peter responds by saying he’s not a pirate but a lawyer. Rufio says, “Kill the lawyer!” to which Peter responds by saying “I’m not that kind of lawyer.” Words to live by I guess.

Speaking of lawyers, while I was doing some research for this post I came across the history of Charlie Korsmo who played Peter’s son Jack. He stared in great films like Hook, What About Bob?, and even Dick Tracy. Tragically his life has gone down hill since then, graduating from MIT with a degree in physics. Later he would graduate from Yale Law School and has become a conservative activist. Now he is a visiting professor at Brooklyn Law School. It pains me to see young child stars end up like this. A lawyer, a conservative activist, even a law school professor. You would have thought he learned something from what people think of lawyers from the movie Hook. Oh well…

Last point I want to make is that as a child whenever I thought pirate, I thought of Dustin Hoffman as Hook. There is no doubt that Hoffman transformed Hook from the cartoon image to real life pirate. Hoffman’s performance would stand as the greatest pirate performance in a movie until the later roles of Captain Barbossa and Captain Jack Sparrow hopped onto the big screen.

On to the new movie quote which comes from one of my favorite movies of all time.

“Oh don't be so stupid, of course we intend to resist! Just give us a moment, all right?”

Good luck.

I'm not confident about this one but here goes...I'm pretty sure this line is from the original Pirates of the Carribean. It is said by Captain Jack Sparrow after Elizabeth's betrothed guy asks if they intend to resist. I can't remember the exact spot they were doing this but I seem to remember him standing on the pier.

That's so easy it was hard. From "The Three Musketeers", Athos, Porthos, and Aramis are sitting in a bar or something like that, when in walks a band of the king's guards and pronounces that they are under arrest, and asks them if they'll come quietly, or do they intend to resist. Porthos, being the natural charmer, stands forth and exclaims, "Oh don't be so stupid, of course we intend to resist! Just give us a moment, all right?" A tussle ensues, and the musketeers arise victorious. Did I miss anything?
