Here is a Quick Post and a Tagged Mention

I have noticed that my number of posts have dwindled recently and I apologize for the inconvenience (that is, if my posts were convenient to begin with). I am currently prepping for another (second to last) movie quiz, doing some touchup jobs around the house, and generally studying for school.

However, I have been tagged by Brooke’s mother and so I have been brought out of my lazy schedule to post a response. The question is…

"When you were a child, who dyed the Easter eggs in your household? Who hid the eggs? Did you get a new Easter outfit every year?"

First of all I wanted to point out that Brooke has also been tagged and has already responded in a previous post. So go and read it if you haven’t already. The easiest way to answer the question is to break apart the question into manageable pieces.

“When you were a child…”

That is assuming quite a bit. I think I was always this size…

“Who dyed the Easter eggs in your household?”

That would be me and my Mom. Dad occasionally did so with the intention of causing havoc. That’s it.

“Who hid the eggs?”

Kind of a funny question because it is linked with the previous question. The question first starts with what eggs? If you are referring to the dyed eggs in the previous question, no one hid those; unless you consider Mom putting them in the fridge as hiding them. Those eggs were used to make potato salad or other foods for Easter.

If your question was independent of the first question then it would probably refer to who hid the eggs we used for Easter egg hunts. Those eggs (the plastic ones that you can open) were typically hidden by one of the parents. I, being the lone person daring enough to try, searched high and low for the Easter eggs. The bonus, of course, was the Easter candy (chocolate, jelly beans, candied eggs, sixlets, etc.) inside of the plastic Easter eggs. Looking back on it now I see that I didn’t have much competition from anyone, so I got all the eggs and all the candy. That was ok by me.

“Did you get a new Easter outfit every year?”

This question could also be read two ways. Did I get a new Easter specific outfit? What, like a bunny suit? Or maybe a complete pastel set of clothes? I can just see the stack of yearly Easter outfits building up in the closet. One day your significant other is looking through your closet with a funny look on their face. You quickly snap, “What, you don’t like my bunny suit? Or is it the pink pastel polo shirt with robin egg blue slacks to match that offends you?” Fortunately, I had none of that growing up.

The other way to read this question is whether I got an outfit as a gift for Easter. I avoid the term “outfit” as I don’t do outfits. An outfit is something you make from a bunch of clothes to wear that day. The idea that you buy a whole set of clothes that are supposed to be specifically worn together is not something I do nor got as a child. Give me a shirt or give me jeans, that is fine by me. Expecting me to wear the shirt and jeans always together is nonsensical.

So the way I choose to read the question is that it is referring to whether I got new clothes for Easter. The answer is yes, no, and maybe. Easter is a funny holiday that bounces between March and April. That means that Easter could be close to my birthday. A couple of times I remember that Easter was on my birthday. I looked it up and apparently it was in 2001 and 1990. When I was turning seven I remember being a little confused why I was getting birthday cake and presents combined with an Easter basket, dyed eggs party, and an Easter egg hunt. Talk about sending mixed messages to a kid, I didn’t even know what I was celebrating. Fortunately this problem won’t happen again until 2063 at which point I’ll be celebrating my 80th birthday. Hopefully by then I’ll learn the difference between my birthday and Easter. Anyway, back on subject, I got clothes for my birthday all the time. So if we take that logic then I definitely got clothes on Easter. However, even when my birthday was different from Easter I got clothes on both days. On the other hand, it could have been a pre or post-birthday gift which would mean that I got it for my birthday rather than for Easter. Therefore I feel justified in putting as my answer to the question as yes, no, and maybe.

Hopefully there were a few people who were entertained by this post. I promise new posts soon.
